Chapter 18

MATT ARRIVED AT THE LAW office of Anderson and Finch. The receptionist informed him that Finch was waiting as she knocked on Finch’s office door, opened it and directed Mat inside. Finch waved Matt in, then motioned for him to sit as he finished jotting down some notes on a pad of paper.

“How are you Matt?”

“Good as can be Thomas... under the circumstances.”

“Just relax. That’s the key to everything right now. The more at ease you seem to be, the more convincing your statements will come across during the evaluation. That’s the main reason I wanted to see before you went there this morning. I think you’ll be just fine.”

“I hope you’re right Thomas,” Matt said, trying to sound confident.

“There is another thing that I wanted to talk to you about. John Thompson has set up a meeting with the two other abductees. You’ll get to see them face to face.”

“I’ve gotta tell you Thomas, as much as I look forward to that, it feels so strange that I’ll actually be able to meet them. Until now I’ve only been able to see fleeting glimpses of them in my mind. It’s been so aggravating because I see a mental picture of someone, but it’s gone in a split second, and I can’t seem to put a face with the image. I tell you though; it is going to feel good to talk to someone who knows what I’ve been through.”

“I’m sure it will. I think this meeting will be very beneficial to you in many ways. My hope is that it will help you to attain a strong attitude and make you seem more confident of yourself when we’re in the courtroom. I can’t impress upon you enough, that how you come across to a jury is of the utmost importance.”

“I understand Thomas. So when is our meeting with Thompson and the others?”

“I’m going to contact him later this morning to make the arrangements. In the meantime, I want to make sure that you get the psychological evaluation completed this morning. After you’re done there, you need to make an appointment with your physician. We need to have him examine you and get current x-rays of your spine. We also need for him to examine your hair to confirm that it actually turned dark, and prove that you didn’t color over the gray and we need to prove that your hair grew back in the areas that were balding. I’ll need affidavits to support the results of his examinations when I begin to prepare your defense. That’s all I’ve got for you this morning Matt; any questions?”

“No, I think I’m all set Thomas, thanks.”

Finch wished Matt good luck and shook his hand as they rose from their chairs. Matt left Finch’s office and made his way to the psychological exam. He was feeling more at ease with his situation in the knowledge that, even though he knew his story was so incredibly hard to accept, he had people fighting for and believing in him.
