Forty-Three

Vaz quietly let himself out of Mitch’s house and crossed to his own front door.

The morning had begun with a slate sky, but the streets were grey and clean from the rain that had accompanied the storms of the night before.

Storms, he thought happily. There were certainly storms…

He shivered deliciously at the memory of the tall man’s body stretched out before him, Mitch’s long fingers stroking down his own chest and abdomen…

He had lain awake after Mitch had finally dozed off sometime around six in the morning, listening to the soft patter of rain after the thunder and lightning that had accompanied their love-making. After an hour of watching Mitch sleep, his chest rising and falling gently, and realising he wouldn’t be able to do the same, Vaz had scribbled a note and slipped away.

He shook his head and crept through to Rita’s kitchen. Against all reason he was hungry - even after the huge meal they had shared the evening before. It was only a few hours ago, but might have been a lifetime away.

Knowing he shouldn’t be surprised at their compatibility, Vaz realised that he had felt himself falling for the English man for a while, and that their long passionate night together had merely crowned the complex journey he been taking toward Mitch. No, not complicated actually - purer and more simple than anything else he had felt since he had arrived in the country.

He should have known that Rita would be up at first light. She actually smirked at him from the huge oak table where she was sipping a coffee and listening to the dawn chorus through her open window.

“A little breakfast for the dirty stop-out?” she drawled, a knowing smile on her face.

He laughed and pulled out a chair as she passed him a freshly buttered slice of toast.

“How was your evening?” She asked, inquisitive eyes twinkling. “Did you both have a nice time?”

He nodded between bites. “It was lovely.”

“Well, why the hell are you back here?” she growled.

He laughed. “I couldn’t sleep. I’ll head back over later on and see how he is. At least I’ll have a few hours to do some laundry before I need to head into London.”

“You should get some sleep! You’ll be exhausted!”

But Vaz knew he would get no sleep today. He was exhilarated and wouldn’t come down for a while yet.

He hummed and sang to himself quietly while he did his chores, then left for the Academy.
