Chapter Eight

Gabriel looked at the stack of paperwork in front of him and sighed. He had a list of people to

call, including the landowner of the location, and another list of forms he had to get as soon as

possible. He had a stack of forms already waiting for him to fill out, and the copies he had to

send back to the studio. He had a location and willing town council. What he didn't have was

enough space to spread out the paper and work.

And he didn't have lunch, though that would be easy enough to find. In an hour, when he'd made

a dent in the paperwork.

Instead, Gabriel picked up the cell phone and made a few calls, ticking things off the list as he

went. It wasn't exactly busy work, as it all had to be done, but it was easier on the head than

filling in forms and doing the math. He was able to confirm dates, which was good, and even

better he was able to confirm some budget questions. But when he hung up the phone, he was

itching to get out of the room at the B&B and move around.

Naturally, his first instinct was to go to see Marc.

Smiling to himself, he gathered up all his files and took them with him; if Marc was painting he

might get some of them done while he watched.

Or maybe not. Watching Marc paint didn't leave a lot of brain power for paperwork.

Gabriel got them both some lunch to go and got in his rental car, hoping that the food wouldn't

spill all over as he drove on the bumpy roads. The spring frost heaves had been settled for

months, but the secondary highways weren't exactly as smooth as a freeway. The drive was nice,

though, and he was in a damn fine mood when he got there, the house looking exactly as it

always did, complete with Bogart stretched out in the yard.

"Hey, boy. Your person around?" Gabriel said as he got out of the car, juggling files and bags of food and drink. "Has he eaten today?"

The dog barked once, tail thumping lazily on the ground, and then the front door banged, Marc

coming down the stairs toward him. "I thought I heard a car."

"You must not be painting, then." Gabriel grinned and held up the food. "Lunch."

"Oh, cool! I'm starving. And no, not painting right now." Marc gave him a grin, fingers reaching

for his belly, sliding over it.

"Oh, good. Then I can have your complete attention." Gabriel leaned in for a kiss, all thoughts of paperwork neatly, if temporarily, slipping from his mind.

Marc laughed into his mouth, eyes happy as the lanky form pressed up close against him.

"We should eat first." But Gabriel kissed him again, wishing he had a hand free. "Or at least go inside so I can put this stuff down before I drop it."

"What is it?" Marc asked, rubbing against him.

"Uh, food." Gabriel tried to rub back, or at least stand firm, but his blood was flowing fast and he really wanted to balance better.
