It had been easy once sheâd identified the correct address. âYouâre so like your mother,â the mad old bat said before handing over the key to the front door. Belle hoped not. She hadnât seen Libby in over twenty years, and even then, the woman had been the chewiest of mutton dressed as lamb.
The door had shut with a quiet click. There was a musty smell, and threadbare carpets with peeling flock wallpaper. A radio played somewhere; a commercial station repeating the Christmas songs of yesteryear with cloddish monotony.
The coverall and overshoes took little more than a minute to apply. Good to know when planning for the next victim.
Libby was stood in the kitchen burning cheese on toast and smoking cigarettes, and to say she was caught by surprise would be something of an understatement. It isnât every day, after all, that someone wanders through a personâs house dressed head-to-toe in blue paper, Taser device gripped tightly in hand. Not that Libby would have had a clue as to what the black and yellow thing was until the current hit and made her dance like a demented frog. And even then, Belle might have forgiven her that initial look of ignorance.
Libby let go of the plate and tried to flee. It hit the floor and broke into four sharp pieces, the bread landing cheese-side down with her writhing next to it on the hard linoleum.
The bindings came next: wide plastic bag-ties fastened to ankles and wrists. Going arm in arm, Belle heaved Libby against the table. It shifted away from them, Libby falling head first against the side of a cabinet door. A slap of the face and a firm shake of the shoulders brought her round again. âNot until I open you up â you owe me that.â Belle pushed the table against the far wall, to where it couldnât slide any further away and, grabbing handfuls of long greasy hair, pulled Libby to her feet and shoved her on top of it. More juice from the Taser meant the crucifix was easily accomplished.
Belle stretched and turned the radio up loud, laughing until it hurt. âHow fucking ironic is that?â she asked when able. âLast Christmas â Wham.â She set herself off again.
Tools and victim were ready. Every sinew in Libbyâs body stretched to just short of rupture point, her eyes bulging grotesquely without lids to hold them in place.
âI was once like youâ¦â Belle took the scalpel and held it to the overhead light, ââ¦tied down and violated against my will. You could have stopped it â any one of you could have â but no one even tried.â Libby lifted her head and mumbled something behind the duct tape. She let it drop free again when her plea brought no response. The radio was switched off before George Michael got to finish. âI want to hear every last whimper you make.â
There was more head thrashing and muted screams as Libbyâs skirt and underwear were cut away. âIâm ready,â Belle said, plunging the knife into her victimâs lower abdomen.
