• Before every meal drink a tall glass of water with two or three capsules of PGX fiber. This usually prevents you from overeating.

• Enjoy a bowl of vegetable soup, minestrone soup, black bean soup, lentil soup, or any other broth-based, low-sodium, non-cream-based vegetable soup. A study done at Penn State concluded that eating a bowl of soup with an entree actually reduced the total consumed calories by 20 percent.6 A cup of bean, pea, or lentil soup before your meal is very filling and will help you lose weight, but eat no more than four cups of beans, peas, and lentils per day.

• Precede your entree with a salad (any size). Make sure you use a salad spritzer with 1 calorie per spray. If you decide to eat your salad with extra-virgin olive oil and vinegar, be sure to limit your olive oil to 1 to 2 tablespoons and two or three times as much vinegar. You will use less if you use a salad spritzer. Avoid the croutons.

• Whether eating a salad or your entree, always remember to chew every bite twenty to thirty times; this not only helps your body digest and absorb the food’s nutrients, but it also causes you to eat slower and fill up faster.

By prefilling your stomach with low-calorie foods, you are less likely to eat excess amounts of starches, meats, fats, and desserts.
