We took a taxi home, figuring it was safer than walking and taking public transport. Dominic warned the driver of my injury, asking him to be as careful as possible. He then walked me to my front door, hovering just beside the porch. He glanced at Moony – who still stood proudly by the front door, despite his broken foot – then back at me. ‘Will you be all right if I leave you here?’

‘Yeah, Mum and Tilly know what to do.’

He smiled. ‘Good. That’s good.’ He glanced at the front window, as if expecting Mum to peek her head through the curtains, but that wasn’t her style. She was probably in her office researching necromancy or reading a romance. ‘You know, a friend of mine is hosting a party later this week. You should come.’

I wrinkled my nose. ‘Parties aren’t really my thing.’ Which was probably an understatement. They were full of people and alcohol, which usually caused people to do stupid things. It brought out the worst in people and they seldom realised until the following morning. Yeah, not the kind of place I liked to hang out.

He put his hand against the wall behind me, leaning his weight on to that side and getting closer to me. I wasn’t complaining. ‘This isn’t your average party. It’s much more chill, and won’t be full of horny teenagers. But it will be cold since it’s outside, so make sure you wrap up.’

‘An outdoor party in November?’

Dominic grinned. ‘Pick you up at seven?’
