~Day 33

I’m not sure what I was expecting today to be like. I’m not sure if I expected it to go smoothly, or if I expected everything to go horribly wrong.

The celebration started this afternoon. Flame-o and I left the apartment early. I ripped a page from the back of my journal and left a note for Mark and told him where we were going to be, just in case we didn’t get back until later. Maybe he already knew from listening in to our conversations. But maybe he appreciated the note, instead of being left alone to wonder.

I don’t want to fight with Mark. I don’t. What he said really hurt me, and he hasn’t apologized for what he said. But I don’t want this to fester between us any longer than it already has. In this world, we only have each other. And we’re going to need to learn to work through our problems. We’ve made it this far together. We can make it even further, I know we can.

This time, when Flame-o and I stepped out onto the street, a silver transport was waiting for us. Guess the monster Flame-o works for wanted us to arrive in style. This time, instead of sitting in the back, I sat up front with the fire monster. I watched with mild curiosity as it punched in a few controls on the center console, but what the buttons said or did, I couldn’t tell you. Whatever instructions Flame-o input into the commands, soon, the transport was rising into the air.

I glanced back at the apartment building where Flame-o lived. I guess I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Mark from the windows. I didn’t see him.

The transport flew along the coast, the land on one side, deep blue waters on the other. When I asked Flame-o where we were heading, it replied we were going to the home of the Grand Chancellor.

“It’s the Grand Chancellor’s duty to oversee affairs on earth. He was elected to his position by the Grand Council.” I wondered if monsters called everything ‘grand.’ Grand takeovers, grand murders, et cetera.

But the fire monster continued speaking. “The Grand Council is a group made up of one member of each intelligent race that has been discovered thus far. It is their job to oversee affairs of all worlds. And the Grand Chancellor was deemed the correct choice to monitor this particular world. That includes overseeing population reports, monitoring humans, conducting diplomatic relations, and opening his home to celebrations such as this.”

I asked Flame-o if the Grand Chancellor had a name. I figured he wasn’t born (Created? Grown? Hatched?) with the title, so I was curious to know if it had an actual name. Flame-o responded with a nod. When the fire monster spoke, the collar translated a rather ugly sounding word into my mind.

Drumplop.

It sounded like the sound shit makes when it hits the water. Flame-o asked why I was snickering. I waved off its question and said it was nothing.
