Sabrina Sidcot
When I left the hospital last Friday I was pleasantly surprised yet startled to find Lucky parked outside the entrance, sitting with the roof down basking in the sun. Friday had been a good day at work, the Matron was off with the chicken pox so the ambiance on the ward was relaxed and I hadn’t let a damn thing piss me off. The evening before I had finally used some of the money Lucky had given me and bought myself some new clothes, I had got rid of most of the junk that Marcus and I had thrown into my suitcases because the majority of it was old clothes that I never wore. Now I was rocking a new look, it said ‘I’m single and I’m not afraid to show it’. I had only jumped on the bus to hit the West End to buy a new blazer to wear to work and maybe a new pair of shoes or two, but carrying the whole five grand with me was my biggest mistake. It had been so long since I had money to spend that for that moment I forgot that I was sleeping on my mother’s sofa, and with each purchase I made more of the old Sabrina came back. I missed my carefree lifestyle and ended up spending just under a grand, I still had enough for a deposit for a flat, and now Lucky being here at my work place could only mean he had good news. He sat up straight when he saw me approaching his car, and removed his sunglasses from his face. I figured he didn’t have my number to call me to see what time I got off work, he must have presumed I finished at 5pm like most folk did and arrived at the hospital at 4:45. It was my guess he expected to see me come sulking out the automatic door having seen how down I was the last time we bumped into each other, but what he saw I could tell threw him back. I stepped out the hospital looking like I was stepping off a runway. I had on the tightest little summer dress, white with blue poker dots and a pair of shiny red stiletto shoes. A little stress had done me good; I’d lost a nice amount weight tossing and turning at nights, and because my spare time wasn’t occupied by my daughter I’ve had plenty of time to pamper myself. My hair was fresh, and coincidentally I was smiling because the following day I was seeing Zoey.
Lucky straightened up as she came towards him. “Are you checking up on me?” I lean in on his car and asked him as he started the engine.
“Not even,” He chuckled. Still stuck on how good I looked. He licked his lips and told em to get in the car. I’d never really watched his lips as he spoke before, but I had noticed them now.
“I just rode over her to tell you that I hollered at my boy, and to give you this.
