While three of the four priorities were operationally (and internally) focused, the priority of creating an organizational plan was so fundamental that it required a carefully considered engagement process to assess ALH internally and externally.

Why Community Engagement

At the start of the planning process, the ALH mission statement was “to cultivate awareness, appreciation, and accessibility of contemporary visual art within the community for its cultural enrichment.” With three main components or functions—gallery, school, and community outreach—ALH is a highly public-focused organization. Within these areas, it offers a range of programs:

Gallery

exhibitions

artist board

public art

Texas Artist of the Year award

Lifetime Achievement Award

artist-in-residence program
