Chapter Ten

Tracie breezed into the flat pulling a large suitcase in her wake. Elliot turned from cooking dinner and saw the luggage. “What’s that?”

“Just a few things I brought over. It’s a hassle to go home every morning to get ready for work.”

He eyed the suitcase. “Trace, I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”

She pushed by him as she went to get a glass of wine. “Seriously? You think it’s okay to fuck in Jenna’s bed, but I can’t bring over a few clothes and some toiletries?”

He admitted to himself that it was strange. “Grace has a key to this place. What if she brings Henry over?”

“So? It isn’t like my name is embroidered on them.” She sat at the table and watched him chop onions. “You call almost every day. If the kid needs something, take it over to him.”

He dropped the knife and turned. “Maybe it would be better if we stayed at your apartment.”

She dug her heels in. He was either going to grow a pair or she was walking. “No. Too small. I have a roommate.”

“She’s never there,” he countered.

“We’re either staying here, or we’re done, and I go home—alone.”

Erin walked into the rehearsal hall to find Jaz had already swept the floor, laid out the yoga mats, and was working through the routine. Sweat stained the back of her workout top. “Wow. You’re here early.”

Jaz didn’t miss a beat. “Wanted to get an early start.”

Erin opened her mouth to make a snide remark but stopped herself and turned to Jaz with a smile on her face. “Good on you. I’m gonna hit the treadmill. Call me when everyone gets here.”

Jaz barely gave her a glance. “Sure. Run hard.”

Erin walked into the gym with a grin on her face. The children are all behaving for the moment, she thought. She stepped on the treadmill and thought about the previous night with Oliver. He’d been the perfect gentleman at dinner.

As they were leaving the restaurant, she’d spotted a boutique across the street that she’d wanted to visit, and to her surprise, he’d suggested they go inside. He didn’t complain once while she spent over an hour shopping and trying on several outfits.

She struggled as the treadmill switched to the hill portion of the program and almost stumbled when she remembered practically attacking him when they got back to the house. They hadn’t made it to the bedroom, for the first round anyway, but they had made good use of the dining room table.

They’d finally showered together and ended up in the king-size bed that had seemed twice as huge since he wasn’t in it beside her. She just couldn’t keep her hands off him. She loved him madly and hated him most every day.

When she’d finally caught her breath after their lovemaking, she’d kept the promise she’d made to herself and sent him off into the night. She’d found him that morning in the driveway sleeping in his truck. “I will not let him move back in. I will not let him move back in.
