forever.” he says, patiently repeating the prophecy for me before continuing. He was

right, this was definitely Cooper’s kind of story.

“The queen chastised the stranger, telling him to leave and never return. That

night, the second born, blood descendant of the King came to see his mother. Pain in his

eyes when he confronted her, that the prophecy was about him. That he knew his

parents planned to pass down her heirloom to their other son. Through her sincere pleas

he took the trinket form her, causing it to remove her soul.”

“Hold on, her literal soul?” I ask, finally looking up at him with raised brows when

he nods. “Her stole his own mother’s soul? What a psycho,”

“It gets worse. The morning light revealed his actions to his family. His father

declared war on the seducing stranger and the son who stole his entire world. Reducing

his wife into a living corpse. His second son stood tal beside him, leading their army into

countless battles in attempt to save the only woman they adored.”

I stare at him for a few minutes waiting for him to smirk and admit he was pulling my leg before I see he’s serious and whistle. “Geez, he must have really loved her to go

to war with his own son.”

“He did. She came to be called the Mother of the shade because her loyalty and

kindness was unfathomable. The ensuing war raged on as the third son came from the

shadows. Saying war wasn’t the answer he journeyed out, searching all the lands.

Pleading to the Goddess for a way to save the mother who raised him. The three

brothers later found that the very man who appeared before them to tempt them into

mutiny was, in truth their grandfather. So centuries later the Mother still sleeps, and

the war still rages for the trinket and it’s ability to return her soul. To return her

I let lose the breath I didn’t realize I was holding as he finished, an abrupt

sadness for the woman filling me. I’d never even heard of her before and I wanted to

cry. I couldn’t imagine being lost from myself for hundreds of years while the sons I

had loved so hard tore themselves apart. “Wow, okay give me just a few minutes please.

I don’t want to forget anything important.” I say, pulling another
