THE SECOND I ENTER MY room, I burst into tears. I don’t even understand why. I gave up on Gabe years ago.

My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I want to throw it when I see it’s Baxter. It’s as if he can sense my distress. I wouldn’t be in this mess right now—feeling I don’t even know what for Mr. Perfect Cock over there—if it weren’t for him.

Baxter – Just wanted to check in and see how things are going. I should be home before the two of you tomorrow, so I can meet you at your apartment.

After texting with him, I feel marginally better. I’m hungry and mad at myself more than anything. It’s nearly eleven now, and I can only hope we’re lucky enough that Max and Aurora might come in and relieve us from our shift earlier than six so I can nap and hit the road by ten. The sooner I get away from The Last Resort Motel, the sooner I can get Gabe out of my life for good.

Once my hair is perfect and my makeup is on, I head down to the restaurant. There is no way I’m going to let Gabe see how affected I was by his words, especially because I know he’s right. In all likelihood, once I had a sample of the things he was capable of in the bedroom, we would have fucked like rabbits until I was another teenage pregnancy statistic. Then, neither of us probably would have fulfilled our potential.

It’s also sort of a turn-on that he cooks and does it well. I’m not great in the kitchen. I can make basic things, but I spend more time eating food at Holly’s house than anywhere else.
