Beau scooped up his sleeping granddaughter and placed her on the pallet next to her snoring brothers. Taking her place on the couch, he pulled his wife into his side and welcomed her head on his shoulder.

“I love that story.” Jodie tucked her stocking feet onto the couch and leaned more fully into him. “Especially the ending.”

“Do you still feel the same now as you did then?”

“Oh no.”

“What?” He tilted to see her face.

She grinned. “I love you even more now than I did then.”

“That’s better.”

Her quiet laugh warmed him, and he wrapped his other arm around her.

“You know, I still wonder the same thing I did then.”

“What’s that?”

He brushed a curl away from eyes still as blue and as beautiful as they were forty years ago. “How I got so blessed to have you.”

“As do I, love.” Lifting her face to his, Jodie met him with a kiss so sweet, so right, that it reinforced one thing he’d learned over the years—with God, there are no mistakes.
