Emily stared at the carving, her eyes unmoving, capturing every detail.

‘What the hell is that?’ Chris finally asked.

‘It’s Coptic lettering,’ Michael noted breathlessly. His shock at Emily’s act was overcome by his amazement.

Emily continued to stare intently at the stone’s strange inscription.

‘I’m not sure just what it is or what it means,’ Michael added, ‘but I don’t think there’s much doubt that it’s what Andrew’s attackers, and our map, call the keystone.’

From behind the huddled group, the distinct click of a pistol being cocked echoed through the cave.

‘The keystone is exactly what that is,’ came a new voice.

Emily, Chris and Michael spun around, the light from their torches falling upon a man none of them had ever seen, whose pistol was aimed directly at them.

‘And now,’ the man said, ‘you will give it to me.’
