She took a look at the Pathway list. There were some patients who should be on this list—wasting resources, they were never going to leave the unit alive. She had made it a point to visit all patients, so they were comfortable seeing her and would not be surprised if she came to their bedside. She had knowledge, opportunity, and access—a trifecta, the winning combination.

She had a virtual candy store of options to choose from: pumps, pills, pushes—then of course, missed doses, adjusting lab results, turning off cardiac monitor alarms. Then there was adding too many or little electrolytes, bumping up the morphine or lidocaine. Infections were always possible, but that might take too long. Air in the line was another option— that would be quick and easy, no trace.

They were going to die anyway. Did it really matter how and when?

The chaos it would create and the pain of their loss would disturb the team and amuse her. The game was clear. It was time to play.
