Chapter Ten
Work had seemingly dragged on for Sam that night, with Mr. Crane glaring at him every chance he got but not daring to say a word to him. Sam felt quite smug that all he had to do was say the word and Alek would fire the bastard for him. Sam wouldn’t actually do that though. He wasn’t nearly mean enough to have someone lose their job because of him. When Alek had finally come to pick him up after his shift he had made another show of making sure everyone knew Sam belonged to him and that to mess with Sam would mean certain unemployment. When they left Alek put his arm around Sam’s waist and asked for his input on the running of the hotel, as though his opinion genuinely mattered. Sam couldn’t put into words how touched he was by that.
The plan for the evening was relatively simple. Jackson was calling a meeting about the progress of renovation of the estate, and everyone who didn’t have work commitments had to attend. Ray didn’t actually work for Jackson’s construction company, nor did he live on the grounds, choosing instead to buy a house several miles away and open a garage, so he didn’t really need to be there, but Jackson had insisted on the pretence that Ray needed to be more a part of the pack. Given that Ray always tried to keep Luka away from everyone else Sam felt sure he would make up an excuse as to why he was there alone.
Alek’s car, which was a ridiculously fast and flashy cherry red Mazda 6 that failed to impress Sam, given that he didn’t drive and knew jack all about cars, pulled up outside Ray and Luka’s house way quicker than it should have.
“Maniac,” Sam shot at him, finally uncurling his fingers from the edge of his seat where they had been frozen in a death grip. Alek chuckled quietly and turned off the engine. They were parked a few doors down from Ray and Luka’s house, and they settled in to wait for Ray to leave.
“So what’s the plan?” Alek asked him as he turned in his seat to look out of Sam’s window at the house. They could see a silhouette moving against the light in the kitchen window but the blinds were partially closed so Sam couldn’t tell which of them it was.
“Um, right, a plan, that would be a good thing to have,” Sam lamented, wondering why the hell he hadn’t thought to come with a plan.
Alek sighed and leaned his head back on his headrest. “I promise you if you get yourself hurt I’m going to keep you chained to our bed for the next fifty years.”
Sam flushed at the idea of it, both the memory of the kinky things Jackson had whispered to him the night before and also how it showed how much Alek cared about him. Sam smiled at him and leaned over to chastely kiss his cold cheek.
