1Try taking a couple of pages from any one of the classroom scenes and rewriting it into the sort of everyday realistic language that you might expect to hear in a school today. Anything that you can’t adapt needs to be deleted. In a group, try speaking your new version aloud. Is it more or less interesting to speak and listen to than Bennett’s original version?

2Now take your revised script and have a go at writing it in a different style (for example, in rhyme, or like a 1940s American film, or any another text you’ve read on your course).
