The Yorkshire Evening Post of Tuesday, 15 September 1914 mentioned his appearance at the Hippodrome:

Mr. David Devant who heads the bill at the Hippodrome this week, is the ideal conjurer. There is nothing of the loudly spectacular about his show, no blare of brass bands or waving of flags to distract the attention from the real thing, the trick he is performing. Instead, he does everything in quiet, whimsically humorous fashion which is most effective and bewilders his audience absolutely by the sheer skill with which he does his work. The cutest would be unable even to guess how what are apparently the simplest of his tricks are done.

Fred Barnes, the well-known light comedy artist, also figures on the programme, and sings old songs and new with equal gusto and success. F. V. St. Clair, with a batch of topical, patriotic songs, gives a show which goes very well.
