Hobbit
Having found what seemed like the only recorded account of a situation similar to that of Lenaâs, and with Senoâs gimmick, we had decided that we were leaving in the morning. I was ready to go. I loved books as much as the next nerdy reader, but thereâs only so many days I could sit in the library and stare at them, fascinating though they were.
Madyâs concoctions, which were actually Attiâs, had healed me good as new. I didnât even have a scar. And Seno was burning in hell, quite literally according to Atti and Delete when they had returned later that evening. We had decided to stay an extra day, allowing for the two injured and traumatized mortals to rest and fully regain their strength. As if we needed it. God magic healed us up quite swiftly.
Instead of exploring this underwater wonderland, my mind was focused on something a little more important. I didnât know when the fear started, but at some point over the last few days, it became glaringly obvious that we mere mortals not in the favor of any giant gods were sitting ducks. We might as well be prey for anything looking for blood, or who happened to be in the way, in the general vicinity, or even just an afterthought as they stalked their true prey. We were unprotected in a sudden assault. And we were incredibly fragile.
I had thought about the obvious source. Ari. I didnât pursue this idea since sheâd been with many mortals since sheâd been on Gaea and hadnât offered any of them a solution, except what she had already handed them. Unless this was a planned fight, the mortals wouldnât and didnât have time to dress properly or get their weapons.
As obsessive as Alyx was with Brettâs life, I knew that if it was something Ari was able and willing to do, it would already be done.
So, I decided on a different route. A more inventive route.
Kellee was in the lounge on the floor where all our rooms were located. He was playing a video game with Brett, Mady, Delete, and another guy whose name I didnât recall. I thought it was one of Senoâs children. Poor guy.
I sat next to Kellee, probably closer than was necessary considering he was the only one on the couch. Crossing my legs under me, I contemplated how Iâd ask him.
In my peripheral vision, I saw a smile grace Kelleeâs face. He moved his arm over my leg where it had leaned on his because of my position and close proximity. I could have movedâ¦
âHey,â he said.
I glanced at him and returned his smile and greeting.
We sat there for a while. I didnât say anything. I watched the game without much interest. Iâm not sure if I really saw it. When Kellee wasnât actually playing, his hand moved onto my leg and he trailed his fingers back and forth. Absently, but soothingly. Or maybe, since Delete was right there, possessive and challenging. I wouldnât recognize subtlety if it was under my nose.
