Chapter 16

Gideon~

“What the fuck is going on?”

I turned towards Lennon’s voice, but she wasn’t alone. With the exception of Scarlett and Seneca, everyone else was walking into my room like privacy wasn’t a thing. Granted, in our family, it really wasn’t, but still. I was still reeling from that bullshit earlier.

“Nothing,” I lied.

“Nice try, but that shit doesn’t work with this one,” Zane said as he jerked his head towards Lennon. “I ought to know.”

“Besides, we all kind of already know,” Neo added.

That made me look over at him. “What?”

“Dude, there’s only one thing capable of putting that look on a man’s face, and that’s woman troubles,” he said.

“Yeah, so spill it,” Maggie said as she got comfortable on my bed.

I didn’t say anything as the rest of the group got comfortable, too. Mags, Posie, and Lennon all situated themselves against my headboard, and Neo took a seat at my desk, leaving Zane to lean up against my dresser. I’d been sitting on my bed when they had all barged in, so it was a good thing that the girls were all petite.

“I found out that Piper wasn’t quite who I thought she was,” I summarized.

“Oh, and who is she?” Lennon asked.

“She was playing me, Lennon,” I told her, told all of them. “She was only pretending to be independent and hard-working.”

“And she’s not?” Neo asked.

“Apparently, she’s willing to blow guys in the backseat of their cars for rides or shit like that,” I answered.

“What?” Posie asked, surprise in her soft voice. “Are you…really?”

I let out a deep breath before I went on to tell them everything that I’d overheard at Tapestries. I told them about Ben running his mouth and how he had mentioned Denny by name. I told them how I had confronted Piper and how she hadn’t even bothered to deny any of it. I even told them about how she had the money to pay me back for Adventure Palace.

When I was done, no one said a word. I knew that they were taking it all in, trying to see the reasons that weren’t obvious. However, I’d already done that. Since the moment that Piper had walked away from me, all I could think about was what I’d overheard and how she hadn’t defended herself. Surely, an innocent person would have defended themselves, right? An innocent person would have demanded to know where I’d heard the rumors of her whoring.

Piper hadn’t done either of those things.

“I’m sorry to hear that,” Neo finally said. “I…I wish there was something I could say.”

“Yeah, I’m really sorry, Gid,” Maggie echoed.

“What are you going to do?” Zane asked. “Are you really just going to leave it?”

“Dude, she’s a fucking whore,” I bit out. “And in all honesty, I could handle that. I have no problem fucking easy women; that’s not the issue. She tried to fucking play me, Zane. She had me thinking that she was good enough to bring to my house. She had me thinking that she was good enough to meet my family.
