Jacobs was sitting in the office complex, behind the dentist’s office, waiting for the last three members of Mallette’s Maulers to join him. Gunner was sitting in the passenger seat. Jacobs arrived almost an hour earlier than the scheduled time, an anxiousness coming over him that he really hadn’t felt before. He probably shouldn’t have arrived so early as it gave him too much time to think. This was really going to be the last of it. There was nobody else on his hit list after this. Other than Mallette, of course. He’d been so consumed with this moment for so long that he wasn’t sure what or how he was going to feel when it was all over. It was a proposition that scared him a little. Ever since his family was killed, he had one reason to keep on living. The fire, the hatred, the revenge on Mallette and his men, it was all he thought about and planned for. Nothing else mattered except that. Now if he didn’t have that, he wasn’t sure what he’d do.

Just sitting there thinking, his focus went in and out, losing track of the time. Thankfully his mind was rescued from its thoughts once the hour was up. Jacobs looked at the time and started to get ready. He checked a couple of his weapons to make sure they were loaded and working properly. After that, he looked over at Gunner and pet him a few times.

“You ready to go?”

Gunner replied with a bark. Only a few seconds later, Jacobs observed a car inching closer to him. About halfway there, the car’s headlights turned off as it continued approaching. Jacobs hit the button on the door for the window to go down on Gunner’s side in case the dog needed to jump out of the car and help. Jacobs gave his dog one final look before getting out of the car. He brought out his black bag that had his weapons in it, pretending that it was the package he was delivering.

Jacobs walked around to the front of his car and set the bag down on the ground. With both cars having their headlights off, and most of the parking lot lights off as well, it was pretty dark in back of the building. It worked to Jacobs’ advantage because if the men recognized his face right away, a firefight would ensue much quicker than he hoped it would. Just in case, Jacobs tugged down on his baseball hat to try and conceal as much of his face as possible.

The other car stopped about twenty feet away and a couple of the doors opened. Two men got out and started approaching Jacobs, while the driver remained in the car. One of the men carried a bag which Jacobs assumed was money. Either that or they were carrying some illegal product that he was supposed to be buying. It didn’t really matter since the deal wouldn’t get that far. As they got closer, Jacobs slowly got down on one knee and unzipped his bag.
