Elena Cole’s wedding day finally arrived after much preparation, and I was excited to see Jess’s hard work and planning become a success.

Jess had spent the entire morning working to finalize every detail. The chef arrived with the cake in time, the music team and photographer had also set up for the event, and Elena had spent her morning with her friends locked away in her room preparing for the big day.

Soft music played in the background as the ceremony carried on. Jess looked stunning in the navy-blue dress she wore for the occasion. Jess was the most beautiful woman present that evening to me. My nerves fired up all at once when she came close to me, and I couldn’t stop myself from staring at her the entire evening.

Jess did an amazing job with the seating arrangement. The tables were set in pairs for couples with two and no more than four seats surrounding each table. There were only five rows for the thirty guests present, and that left enough room for dancing in the middle.

Elena was also a lovely bride. She was engrossed in the moment with her husband, and everyone else was enamored by the heart-melting words the bride and groom said to each other when it was time for their vows.

I could only stare at Jess, and I noticed her discomfort when she kept tapping one foot endlessly on the ground. She hugged the notepad she held close to her chest and her gaze stayed on the man seated on the second row to the last. I noticed it was her father sitting there.

I could tell she was on edge because of him, and my heart pricked a little as I glanced over my shoulder again to watch her distressed look.

Everyone’s attention was on the groom and bride, so I rose to my feet, strode to the back, and stood with her. Jess’s gaze was watery when she looked at me. It broke my heart to see her like that, so I cleared my throat and let my hand brush over hers.

She bit her lower lip and then said to me, “You should be enjoying the moment.” Her gaze stayed pinned on her father, and I watched Peter Cassidy too as he laughed at something the woman beside him said, then reached out and touched her hand.

“You’re beautiful,” I told her, hoping to distract her from the worrisome thoughts that plagued her mind. She didn’t hear me at first, but when I took her hand and linked our fingers, she gulped in a large chunk of air and turned to look at me. “And you’ve done an amazing job planning this event. Don’t let anyone ruin this moment of celebration for you, Jess.”

“You’re staring too hard,” I told her. “You need to relax.”

“I can’t,” she answered. “I just…It’s just…Look at him. He looks happy with her. They look like the perfect couple,” she whispered, then looked from me to him again. “It makes me hate him more.
