Chapter 4

As soon as Devon got out of the shower at his mansion, he saw that he was going to make sure that he stayed in the rest of the night because he wasn't going to get himself into any more trouble. He checked his cell phone to see if there were any missed calls and he looked at it sadly because he didn't have any calls from Jasmine like he had hoped that there would be.

Looking at himself in the mirror, he knew that he couldn't deny what he had done at the strip club but he had to remind himself over and over again that she didn't want him, that she had rejected him for one reason or another. Things that were going on in her life and he wasn't about to sound desperate, and he wasn't going to ask. If she wanted to open up to him, she would open up to him in time and that's all there was to it.

“Jasmine, why did you say no to me? Why did you tell me that you weren't ready to date yet? There has to have been something going on with you. Whether it's now or happened in the past that you feel you can't talk about it.” He groaned, turning away from the mirror because he didn't want to look into those guilty eyes that looked back at him.

He looked at the clock in the hallway and saw that it was only four in the evening. He didn't know what to do with his time, but he knew that it was dinnertime. Whenever he was home it was always dinnertime around four. He liked to make sure that his help could have an early night every night, unless he was entertaining many guests which didn't happen often. Maybe on the holidays, but there weren't too many people that he knew or trusted enough to come into his house. He didn't have much for family. His mother and father had died just weeks apart from each other, and he still visited them often. He was the only child and his father had taught him about how to start a business when he was young.

For the first time during that day, he had a smile on his face that was genuine. It was because he had thought about his parents. He made his way down the stairs and into the kitchen.

He sat down in the kitchen, thinking it was time to change the kitchen a little. There was a cutting board solely for meats to be cut up and another one beside it for vegetables. He saw the crystal chandelier and he wished the sun was shining through because he loved the rainbow colors it made when the sun was shining on it.

“You look like you just lost your best friend,” his maid Heather told him. She was a young woman who loved making sure that he was all set. No matter what little thing that he wanted, she was right there giving it to him.
