“What can I getcha?” A bartender with blue hair and the shortest black dress yelled over the music to them.
“Vodka and cranberry for me.” Laine turned to Nadia to see what she wanted.
“Same!” She yelled.
The two of them had stumbled upon a bar, nearly bursting from the seams full of people and loud music. The bar was
vibrating from the loud basses and while Laine thought it was a good idea to get a quick drink, she was rethinking her version of a ‘tour’ of the city. Perhaps the haunted jail with ghost pirates would have been more enthralling than a cramped bar.
“Have you ever been here before?” Nadia yelled from where she was standing at the bar.
“No, I haven’t, but I’ve heard Sin say good things about it. They have a dance floor upstairs and another bar.” While the bar was small and the music was loud, the neon lights and graffiti made for an interesting backdrop.
Two drinks were slid out on the bar. The blue-haired bartender asked, “want to open a tab?”
“Why not?” Laine slapped her card down on the wooden bar top. “Same card for the two of us, please?”
She turned back to Nadia and sipped her drink. “So you’re staying with us when the contractor starts on the bathroom, right?”
Nadia nodded her head. “I can, or I can just get a rental somewhere else. I just don’t want to put anyone out.” She took the cocktail straw out and swirled the ice around.
Laine’s eyes watched her twirl the straw, her eyes catching her butterfly tattoo. Laine loved how it looked on her arm and was thankful it healed as nicely as it did. It truly made Nadia more confident by being able to hide away the past.
“You’re not putting anyone out. Chase can sleep on the pull out couch if you want your own room. We can clean his up. It’s really no big deal. Besides we can have a girl’s night almost every night.” Laine was fighting to talk over the music.
“Does make for a shorter distance home than a hotel.” Nadia smiled as she slid her rocks glass onto the bar top. “Honestly, thank you. If you change your mind, let me know.”
“I’m not going to change my mind. You know that. The offer stands.” Laine gently placed her hand on Nadia’s thigh and squeezed it affec-tionately. Laine sensed Nadia move closer. Feeling daring, she stroked her fingers up higher. She watched as goose bumps spread across her legs.
“Is this seat taken?” A man with a scruffy beard asked Nadia, interrupting them.
Nadia shook her head and he sat next to her.
The moment had passed, however, and Laine paused her wandering fingers.
Nadia grabbed her drink from the bar top and took a sip. “Where’s Chase tonight?”
“He and Greg were home playing the Xbox. He texted while on the ghost tour that they were thinking about going to Town Centre to meet up with a few friends and to get ice cream. Pretty sure his girlfriend is there.
