Madisen

In the few seconds after the amazing afterglow of our passion, I sensed a change in Viper that was so dramatic, I was almost heartbroken. That made no sense, of course. He didn’t belong to me nor was I under any pretense this was more than what it was. I also refused to fall back into the rabbit hole again.

The delirious passion had been a spectacular blip in time, a fulfillment of a longing that would keep me breathless for some time to come. Still, maybe there was a small part of me that hoped for the fairytale, but I was no fool. We’d both lost control.

He backed away, kissing my forehead then moving several feet down the wall of the pool, immediately lifting his body from the water. I expected him to leave me alone without saying a word, but he eased onto the edge of the pool instead.

His head was lowered, his chest rising and falling, obvious guilt replacing the joy we’d just shared. I remained where I was, the sudden rise of embarrassment and shame unexpected. When I turned around, forcing the emotions into a locked box, I heard his heavy breathing. The second I started to walk through the water, his gruff voice stopped me in my tracks.

“Madisen. Come here.”

His commanding tone was deeper than I’d heard before, laced with emotion of his own. I hesitated, uncertain I wanted to hear what he had to say.

“I said. Come. Here.”

Why did his obvious need for control have such a profound effect on me? I spun around, the water churning from my actions. He had another look of lust in his eyes, his gaze sweeping down to the way my breasts hovered just above the water’s surface. The breeze tickled my skin and I slid my hand through several strands of hair, studying him the same way he was doing to me.

Where he’d once had a boyish grin, everything about him now was all male, the years defining every aristocratic line into sheer perfection.
