Chapter Five

The light shone in through the window, and Swift knew it was morning. Should he stay here? The morning after was hard. Maybe that was why he never had sex before. That wasn’t it. He never thought about sex, let alone initiating it. Sex would’ve given someone too much control over him. He was free. But he didn’t feel powerless around Null. In a fight, the warrior would pin him to the ground in less time it took for him to sneeze. Last night, Null had given Swift the power to stop.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Slowly, he started to get up. The muscles in his legs and back hurt, and a new discomfort became known as he tried to sit up. Null instantly appeared by his side. He nearly jumped off the bed at the warrior’s sudden arrival.

“Shh, it’s just me,” Null said, rubbing Swift’s back. “How are you feeling?”

How did he feel? Sore. Embarrassed at nearly jumping out of skin. Unsteady after waking up in an unfamiliar place. But he kept those things to himself and went with “I feel great.”

The tone was far too chipper for his liking. He tried to move, but stopped when the slight tinge of pain became an ache. Apparently, he needed a bath, too. But through the slight pain and discomfort he felt like flying. Never before had he felt so alive. Null smiled, and Swift’s heartbeat faster. What was happening to him?

“Come on.” Null held out a hand.

Swift grabbed it and allowed the warrior to pull him off the bed. That was another first. Swift stood on two feet without help. When he fell down, he had to hurry to get up before feet stomped on him. Letting someone help him, didn’t make him feel weak or less of a man. It made him feel wanted.

Null lead him to the bathroom. “The tub is full,” the warrior said. “I started to fill it when you woke up. You’ve been staring at the ceiling for a while.”

He wanted to bury his head to hide it. “I was thinking.” Of course he was thinking.

“About what?” Null asked not willing to let it go.

“About last night.” There was no use hiding it. “I’ve never had a morning after and don’t know what to do.”

Null pulled them to a stop. “Do you regret what happened?”

“No.” Swift felt unbalanced and unsure, but there was no regret.

Null smiled at his answer and pulled him into a greedy and possessive kiss. When they pulled apart, Swift was left breathless, so much so that Null had to help into the tub.

The water was a few degrees hotter than he liked, but the extra heat soothed his sore muscles. He squealed in delight and Null laughed at him. He took a hand and splashed the warrior, getting his clothes wet. “Join me,” Swift said as he held out an arm.

“I wish I could, but business calls,” Null said with a slight frown.

“What kind of business?” This wasn’t Null’s spaceship, so there wasn’t anything here for him to do.
