These other 3 bodies exist as the inner bodies, existing on top of one another, like the peels of an onion, and collectively are known as the subtle bodies, which together exist as an egg shaped Aura body around the physical bodies of the incarnated human beings. This “Aura body “consisting of subtle bodies is known in Hindu religion as the “Sukshma Sharira”.
During the so called astral projection process, the subtle bodies existing in one’s aura are separated from the physical body of the projector, but are still tied through a radiant vital energy life line for their animation and thus controlled by the consciousness of their projector, and if some harm gets done to the projected body or it dies during this astral projection, then the projector who is consciously projecting it, and thus vitally connected with it will also “die”.
The subtle body known as Sukshma Sharira in Vedanta is composed of five Koshas or “sheaths”. The subtle body is the vehicle of consciousness with which one passes from one life to another life. The Linga Sharira is the vehicle of consciousness as explained in Samkhya yoga and is governed by the previous life tendencies, which are frequency vibrations, and the term “Sharira” as “form” or “mold”. The Karana or “instrument” is a term related to the consciousness polarized in the astral plane frequencies known as Bhavas. The word “Linga” can be thus be translated as the “characteristic” or the quality of consciousness existing as the vibration frequency, which is required by the soul to experiment with, as existing itself in an energy lotus formation at the 4th sub plane of the mental plane.
In the Samkhya system of Ishvarakrishna, the Lińga is the characteristic mark of the transmigrating entity [soul]. It consists of twenty-five tattvas from eternal consciousness down to the five organs of sense, and five organs of activity (buddindriya or jñānendriya, and karmendriya respectively) and the five subtle elements that are the objects of senses (tanmatras).
