Chapter Fifteen

If anyone had told me twenty-four hours ago that I would be married and headed back to New York City, I would have laughed, and then cried my eyes out because I wanted that fantasy so damn much.

And yet, proof that fantasy had become reality sat on my ring finger in all its glittering glory. I was still a little astonished at the price tag for the five-caret platinum wedding ring Vinnie had purchased for me.

I had tried to steer him toward something a little less expensive—or maybe a whole lot less expensive—but once he saw that I liked this ring, he wouldn't hear of it.

Not sure how I felt about buying a diamond ring in a casino, though. Apparently, some of the more high-end casinos had top name jewelers in their shopping malls.

Who knew?

Apparently, Vinnie knew because as soon as we had landed and gotten into a limousine, we had made a stop to purchase wedding rings before moving on to a wedding chapel.

We'd been in Las Vegas for two hours. Just long enough to buy rings, get married, and get back to the airport and into the air. That was a few hours ago and now we were coming in for a landing LaGuardia Airport.

I'd left New York City nearly four months ago in fear for my life, heartbroken and alone. Now, I was flying back to New York City married to the very man I had been running from.

My life was so weird.

"Bruno, Marco, and a unit of bodyguards will be waiting for us once we get to the hangar. We'll go directly to the penthouse. If you want to make any stops along the way, let me know and we'll stop."

"No, I'm good." Vinnie had spent enough money on me for the day. He didn't need to be spending anymore. "I just want to eat something and get some rest."

I'd napped a little on flight from Portland, but I hadn't really been able to rest. I had been too scared that I would wake up just as the plane was going down in flames.

Vinnie sent me a small smile as he squeezed my hand. "I'll have Elena make us something light to eat and send it to our room. Once we get home, we can spend the rest of the night cuddled up together."

"Don't you have to check in or something?" I wasn't sure what all Vinnie's businesses were, and I didn't want to know, but I knew enough from our time together before that he was almost always working.

"I do, but I can do that in the car."

My frown was instant, a protest welling up in my throat. "I thought you weren't going to discuss business when I was around."

"I'm not, love, I promise," Vinnie assured me. "Bruno and Marco know what they can and cannot say in front of you. If there is something more urgent, they will let me know and I will take care of it after I get you settled.
