Chapter 15

In light of their suspicions the team remained in HQ and focused their attention on interpreting the map. Red’s computer program had been running the outline for several hours without any positive results.

“I thought you said this new tech’s supposed to be off the charts.” Matt leaned in over Red’s shoulder.

“That’s what I was told, yes. It’s scanning through millions of possible variants across cities, countries, islands and just about any geographical location known to man. The entire world is in DotGrid format inside this program,” Red explained.

“I have no idea what that means but what logic tells me is that this could take days, Red. We don’t have days. Someone out there understands the value of this ring and we now know they forced Luke into telling them that we have it.” Matt’s usually optimistic outlook had turned to concern.

“Then why haven’t they broken down our door yet?” Ronita asked.

“Because they’re waiting for us to decipher it. We’re being watched, and the moment we leave this hotel they’ll be following us,” Alex said from where she stood at the window and stared at the parked surveillance vehicle in the street below.

“Well, we’re nowhere close to finding out what that outline is. It looks like an area map but there’s no ‘X’ marks the spot or names of any kind on there. It could literally be an outline of an animal for all we know,” Sam commented.

“You’re right. We’re assuming it’s a map. We should explore other possibilities too,” Alex suggested as she walked to where the two rings lay on the table.

“Do we know what these symbols mean?” Matt asked as he sat down at the table next to her.

“For the most part, yes. They’re Greek symbols that translate into words or phrases. The first ring is different from the second in that it only has the tao-rho on it—the Greek letters, meaning cross. The second ring has two more symbols added—the alpha omega and the ichthus. Combined it translates to ‘Jesus Christ Son of God’. The same message is essentially repeated in all three images,” Alex explained.

“I thought you said this man hated God,” Matt queried.

“Not God; he was a priest who served his version of God. He hated the man who said He was God’s son,” Sam corrected him.

“So why did he have rings claiming that Jesus was the Son of God? This contradiction as much as admitted it. That doesn’t make sense,” Matt said.

Alex stared at the rings on the table.

“It’s a confession! He’s confessing it,” Alex jumped up in excitement.

“A confession to what? He was a high priest long before the crucifixion. I thought you said these were his rings,” Ronita said.

“They were, but they were crafted after the crucifixion. These symbols didn’t even exist before the crucifixion. The tao-rho for example was one of the earliest Christian images of the crucifixion. That’s how they recorded events, through symbols. The Egyptians did it centuries before the time. It’s throughout the entire Old Testament,” Alex explained.
