Bushy Wood as a venue for various ghosts, ghouls and spirits has been touched on above. A few years ago, I spoke with a very old woman, actually born in the eighteenth century, and she confessed that, before she died, she desired to discharge an awful knowledge that she had carried around with her all her life. With some trepidation I volunteered to be her confident, and was told of a formula, or rune, by the recitation of which the dead could be raised, at a precise spot in Bushy Wood, on a precise date in the year. I have never had the foolhardiness to put this into practice, nor have I told a soul about it; but rather than go to my own demise with the secret unconfessed, vide infra numeros in paginis dispersis.
