CHAPTER EIGHT

“So you’ve got another chick housed in one of our condos, eh?” Troy teased his brother, Dion. It was late at night and the boys were in the grand study at Romero Manor, having a drink and discussing their next move vis-à-vis the gradual evacuation of their overseas staff in Lendovia.

“Not funny, Troy,” Dion shot back. “She’s not another chick. She’s...an EA with my company, and you know that.”

“I’m only kidding, bro. You’re the one who said after Miranda set you up, you were through with hiring females and helping ‘em out of tough times, remember?” Troy took another swig of his drink, while he rested his elbow on the mantelpiece of the stone fireplace between the wall bookshelves. “What ever happened to once bitten, twice shy? Just don’t wanna see you get hurt again, Dion. You’re an annoying brother, but you’re still my brother, man. I’ve got your back.”

“Thanks, Troy.” Dion leaned back in the black leather executive chair behind the study desk. His drink and his late night supper prepared by the butler remained untouched. He didn’t have much of an appetite. Well, at least not for food. “But she’s different,” he continued. “I actually have a good feeling about her. I didn’t at first when she showed up at the office despite the cancellation with the agency. But I do now. She’s golden. Everything she’s said so far about the tension in Lendovia checks out. We can get our men out of there faster and before anything really stirs up.”

At least Dion hoped Jenna was different. He was really beginning to feel her. She had just the right vibes. And man, was she hot, without even trying. Those soft, large caramel-colored eyes and luscious lips. And boy, did she have a killer body with killer curves. She could send a man into cardiac arrest with those provocatively shaped hips of hers.

Troy sighed heavily. “Well, Pamela did say Jenna had all the right stuff you’d need for the job.”

Dion gave him a funny look. “I still don’t appreciate people, i.e., Pamela, making decisions on my behalf. Pam went and hired Jenna without my consent.”

“Relax, man. It’s all working out, isn’t it?”

If he didn’t know any better, Dion would think Troy had a thing for Pamela. He was coming to her defense. Well, at least most of the time. Pamela was young and pretty with the shiniest ebony hair he’d seen on a woman. He wondered why none of his brothers had made a move on her. Not that he was ever interested. Right now, Jenna was the one who caught his attention. And probably not in the best of circumstances.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Dion agreed softly before another concern pounded hard on his chest. “Any news about Miranda’s accusation?” Dion had been so busy working with Jenna on those new memos and instructions for a gradual release plan at the Rom that he didn’t have time to sit and discuss the latest development with JoJo.
