Chapter Four

Monday I had a bad day. First of all my car wouldn’t start, and then when I got to work the air conditioning had decided to stop working. It had to be on the hottest day of the year.

“What did you do over the weekend?” asked one of my co-workers. She wiped her face with a washcloth and then waved her hand in front of her face. The perspiration was also dripping down my chest and back.

“I did some gardening.”

If you can call just digging a fucking great hole in the ground gardening.

“That doesn’t sound very exciting.”

I didn’t want to tell her I’d also had a dirty phone call with the werebear that lived next door.

I looked up to see our manager step into the room. He too had sweat pouring down his face.

“The air conditioning won’t be fixed today so the CEO has decided to send us all home. Think of it as an extra vacation day.”

“Best news I’ve heard all day,” I said.

“I think I’m going swimming,” said my co-worker. “How about you?”

“Just going to laze around the house,” I said.

And maybe stare out my window too.
