â¦
A loud noise made him wake up in a startle. A thunderous rumble even though it had not rained for several days. He bounced back as the moon dimly lit the night. Letting his eyes get used to the darkness, he understood more than he saw that the Rhoda had suddenly grown, a little lower. Fortunately, he had set up camp on an elevated area of the flint deposit, sheltered by an overhang of the rock. Potac was agitated too and stamped while blowing his nostrils. Kadmeron approached him:
â Do not fret my friend! The waters are still raging, but we are not on their way and are afraid of nothing!
â Hiiii!! the horse snorted, still tensed.
â The Rhoda is still wide here, but much less than we have known it so far. So, calm down, please!
He comforted him as best he could, and the animal, under the caresses, finally calmed down. They pressed against each other, waiting for the river to calm its anger and return to the dimensions they knew it had. While scratching Potac behind its ears, Kadmeron realized that he had to gradually get used to the wrath of the waters, accept them, and take care to protect himself from them. Just as he had to admit that some humans also get angry, suddenly, and violently. Was there not a similarity between these phenomena? Could humans be blamed for acting like the elements of nature? He told himself he had to make up his mind and kissed his friend on the muzzle.
â We will leave as soon as dawn breaks. Do you agree?
â Hiii... Hiiii...
After making sure he forgot nothing and weighing down his satchel with about ten tools and flint blades, as well as a large supply of arrowheads, Kadmeron and Potac set out. The Marteron wanted to go fast and only stop if he could not help it. He had clearly understood that he could not stay in this mountain area longer than necessary, even if the warm season had not yet reached its peak. He was wary of the mood swings of the Rhoda and was in a hurry to reach the first big lake. He was approaching the goal and was not suffering from hunger because nature offered him something to eat, but he had noticed that his stools were becoming more and more liquid and had recognized the seeds of the berries he had eaten the day before. His stomach and his palate demanded a good grilled meat! The hunter regained some enthusiasm and finally found his bearings in this steep and grandiose universe that he did not know. Luckily, his sharp arrows knocked down a young ibex who seemed to have lost its way, far away from the rest of its clan who was leaping from rock to rock much higher. He decided to load it without chopping it up, for the Rhoda was getting smaller and smaller, the banks were marshy and not very appropriate to the establishment of a camp in the midst of swarming insects, flying over the mud and the rushes.
