CHAPTER 23

Codename: The Scarlet Dicer

Priya landed safely over the fence. She stooped and dusted off her red cheetah patent pumps.

She stood up and noticed that Jenesyss was standing on the lawn, watching her. Both women showed no signs of fear as they watched each other one last time.

With that, she took off walking to her car that was parked on the side of the road.

She took out her smartphone and pulled up her Car-app to unlock the door.

The car’s engine started before she stepped in. She then placed her phone on the hands-free car mount, and dialed Henry’s number. It went directly to voicemail.

“Hey Henry it’s me,” she calmly recorded. “We need to talk.”

She looked in the rearview mirror, decorated with two Red Cheetah Fuzzy Dice, to make sure her red eyeshadow and red lipstick were all right. When done, she checked for oncoming traffic, and then proceeded to her destination.

She drove on the open road with the top down. When she got to the city, she spotted a RESET van parked on almost every block. This only added fuel to the fire that was already burning inside her.

When she arrived at home, she parked her car on the side of the road, just out front. It was already 1:10 p.m.

She grabbed her purse, stepped out and locked the doors.

Before entering the gate, she noticed that Michael Riddle was on her porch, leaning over the railing, patiently waiting for her to arrive.

Not wanting to draw any suspicion, she resumed her normal pace to the house and up the steps.

“Miss Priya Purnell,” he stressed.

“Detective Riddle. You’re trespassing. I can have you arrested for that.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t take too much of your time. I just have a few questions that need answering.”

“I’m sorry, but now is not a good time.”

“We can either do it here or downtown in handcuffs. Take your pick.”

She pouted and then said, “Is this about my husband?”

“What about him?”

“He’s been missing for two days.”

“That’s a strange coincidence. Veronica Hall from Hall Trust also went missing two days ago.”

“We both know who is responsible for that.”

“Do we?”

“Yes. They’re called RESET. You should look into them one of these days.”

“She was the wife of the Scarlet Dicer’s latest victim. I wanted to question her about something but her unfortunate disappearance has hindered that. My first instinct was that the Dicer got to her before I could.”

“Then…I suggest you take your questions to the Dicer.”

“This is why I came to see you.”

“…about the Dicer?”

“Yes!” he said. After a short pause he added, “And also something else. I know that you’re the last living CEO of one of the investment banks that aided in the Alkane Project.”

“Former CEO,” she corrected.

“Either way, you were still working there when the Alkane Project ended. And since you’re still alive, I was wondering what more could you tell me about this project.”

“That is highly classified. I signed a Unilateral CDA contract. But I can tell you the reason I signed off on it was because I thought they were going to use it as a means to counter terrorism.
