Chapter Eight

Decimus Waits

#

Decimus could see that his daughter and Aine were being patient in waiting for their trap to be sprung being him. The former cult leader could barely move from his predicament.

#

“I just can’t believe my own people would do this to me” sighed Decimus.

#

Decimus soon began to close his eyes, he began to pray to even to the wolf god - Zalmoxis.

#

“You should let the Romans beat my daughter” whispered Decimus to the wolf god.

#

“Are you kidding me?” bellowed Zalmoxis who spoke to Decimus.

#

Decimus was surprised by all of this.

#

“You should very well understand I do not appreciate my magic falling into the wrong hands” continued Zalmoxis.

#

“But my daughter’s hands are no better than the Romans” added Decimus.

#

The wolf god thought for a moment. The former cult leader had a point, Domitia was going to be a rogue Dacian leader with great power on her end. The witch ally - Aine would also be a problem for the region.

#

“Fine, I will give those two captains a chance” continued Zalmoxis, “and give them the upper hand against the two she wolves.”

#

“Thank you” said Decimus.

#

Wolf God Speaks

#

Both captains Cattus and Emilus continued to trek through the forest with the Roman soldiers after the ambush by the Dacian soldiers and cult members. There was very little causalities on the Roman end, but that wasn’t the same for the Dacian soldiers or cult members who had initiated the ambush.

#

“The amulets” said Captain Cattus as he noticed the glow.

#

“You two” spoke Zalmoxis through the amulet Cattus was holding, “you have been given permission to use the amulets against the rogue she wolves!”

#

“I beg your pardon, who are you again?” asked Captain Emilus.

#

“I am Zalmoxis the Wolf God of the Dacian people” continued Zalmoxis, “normally I am not fond of intruders using our magic, but this is a special case!”

#

“Decimus must have spoken to you” said Captain Cattus.

#

“Yes and he asked me to give you two permission” continued Zalmoxis.

#

“That makes sense” said Captain Emilus.

#

The two captains could see a change in the amulets that they were holding. The shaman who was ahead with the scout noticed the glow in the distance.

#

“Looks like Decimus spoke with the wolf god” chuckled the shaman.

#

Commanding Wolves

#

Commander Valerius soon noticed the glow on the amulets that both captains Cattus and Emilus were holding.

#

“Those two things, what’s going on with them?” asked Commander Valerius.

#

“If you were to believe it, but these amulets have the ability to change people into wolves” continued Captain Emilus.

#

“Display it for me” commanded Commander Valerius.

#

The two captains placed the amulets around their necks and surely enough they began to transform into wolves before the commander’s very eyes.

#

“Amazing” said Commander Valerius, “we might have the upper hand against the Dacians after all!”

#

The two captains felt odd being in their wolf forms watching the Roman soldiers pour through the forest. The soldiers themselves felt it was very odd their two captains were now wolves observing them.

#

“Well it’s good that they’re on our side” added a Roman soldier.

#

“I know” added another Roman soldier, “just think if they were not would be worse for all of us.
