Chapter Thirty-Two

Wyatt

I slam the gate closed and hustle to the truck with Kai hot on my heels.

“This is fucking hopeless. Where next?”

“8976 Forsyth Avenue” he replies, climbing into the passenger seat.

“How is the guy managing to evade us all?”

“Money,” Kai simply states. “It buys many things, including people’s loyalty. Look, maybe you should go home and crash for a few hours. Jude and I’ll take the next house.”

“Fuck off, Kai.”

I pull into the street and head to the next address, about an hour outside of the city according to the GPS.

“You haven’t slept in days.”

“I’ll sleep when I have her back.”

“Wyatt—”

I cut him off with a glare. “And if it were Viddy?”

He sighs and shakes his head. “Take the freeway. It will be quicker.”

My cell rings before I can reply. I answer without looking to see who it is.

“Yeah?”

“Hi, sorry. Is this Wyatt?” a woman’s voice asks.

I look at Kai before answering.

“Who wants to know?”

“I um…are you? I’m sorry but I really need to find him. I have a message.”

“A message from who?”

“A Miss Lee.”

“Jenna? Jesus Christ, please tell me she’s okay.”

“Look, I’m a nurse. I’ve been going and changing her dressings but there is something off about the man she is staying with. He told me he was her husband so at first, I put it down to them going through a rough patch. But it’s more than that. Today she slipped me a note. In it, she left this number and told me to ask for Wyatt. She said to tell you she needs you to come get her now.” She coughs. “She said she needs her beast.”

“Fuck! Lady, tell me the address, I’m on my way.”

She reels it off, making me promise to call her back when I have Jenna safe.

“Kai, call whoever you need to but I’m not waiting. She has already been in his hands far too long.”

“On it. You just concentrate on getting us there without killing us both.”

I grunt, then tune him out as he makes his calls.

The address the nurse gave us is only twenty minutes away. It’s not one of the addresses Wizz gave me and Wizz is too good to have simply overlooked it.

I press the call button under Wizz’s name and wait for him to answer.

“You found her?”

“I’m on my way to find out. A woman called claiming to be her nurse. I’ll get Reid to forward you her number so you can check her out, but that’s not why I called. The address she gave me is the Seratova Estate on Blakey. That’s not one of the properties you gave me.”

“Let me check it out and I’ll call you back.”

“You good?” Kai asks when he hangs up.

“No, fuck no. I’m not good and I won’t be until I lay eyes on my girl and see that she’s okay.”

He nods, having been through this shit with Viddy. He gets it.

“Will, Jude, and Viddy are on their way, but we’ll beat them to it. You got anything more than that fucking bat?”

“I’m better with a bat than a gun.
