âIâLL JUST BET THEY were ânot strictly legal maneuvers,â you big lug,â I said to my windshield.
After dinner, Volt insisted that I follow him, and he roared down a darkened stretch of 301 into Starke. His speed was such that I struggled to keep up. After so much hard driving, I feared my Corolla would end up roaring in flames, which would be the only way it would ever roar.
Lucky for me, a red light ahead forced Volt to slow his roll. I patted the top of the dash. âHang in there, little car.â
Unfortunately, the respite for my car was short-lived. We quickly fled the smattering of traffic in Starke to take off on a two-lane road toward Clay County.
A little over an hour later, we pulled into the fenced-in compound of the Riot MC. Volt guided his bike to a secluded area away from the clubhouse, and his long arm motioned for me to park on the right side of his bike.
I parked, snagged my purse from the passenger seat, opened my door, and had just unfolded from my car when Volt was in my space. With my hands and my purse to his chest, I gave him my biggest eyes. âYou have a death wish for my car. Iâm amazed my poor girl made it this far as fast as you were driving, you nut!â
One hand came out and held my wrist to him, while his head turned to my vehicle. ââOld girlâ is more like it. Need to upgrade, Jacqueline.â
I looked up to the stars, then to Voltâs bike before I looked directly to him. âMy car is not the issue here, itâs your aggressive hard-driving style, sir.â
His other hand went to the small of my back pulling me closer. âI intend to be hard-driving tonight, all right.â
âChrist. I thought women were the ones who hit their sexual peak in their thirties,â I said off-handedly.
âIâll damn sure look forward to that,â he murmured as his mouth went directly to my neck and he sucked hard.
That was one hell of a forward statement.
âGetting ahead of yourself, there, arenât you?â I asked and wished I could pull it back. I had not meant to give voice to those thoughts.
Voltâs head came up, and he looked down at me, his eyes glittering with irritation. âNo. Not getting ahead of myself. You need to keep up. Maybe this didnât sink in when I said it to your father, but two years ago we met. I wanted you then, but had to hold off. Iâm not some flash in the pan, Jacqueline. So far, I like what we have. And-â
âItâs been eight days! Okay, nine now, I suppose, but seriously, days.â
âI knew then, and I knew it when I saw you again. This shit doesnât make any fuckinâ sense, but too damn much about life doesnât make a fuckinâ lick of sense. I know I want you, and not just for a few nights. Now, me tellinâ you that a week ago, that would be creepy, not me callinâ you âbaby-doll.
