NOTE—With the promulgation of the new Code of Canon Law in 1918 the obligation was imposed on all religious Orders and institutes of revising their constitutions in such points as might be necessary in order to bring them into conformity with the prescriptions of the new Code. In September 1933 representatives of the various Congregations of the Oratory met in Rome to decide upon the revisions thus rendered necessary in the case of the constitutions of the Oratory. The revised constitutions have not yet been issued, but it may be stated that such changes as have been proposed are only in the direction of defining more explicitly the object of the institute, and of adapting certain points to suit the changed conditions of our times, the basic principles explained in this chapter remaining entirely unaltered.
