Beckett checked his reflection one more time in the mirror before leaving his cabin. It was already later in the morning but it was darker than usual and there were black clouds hovering in the distance. The area would get some much needed rain.

“Why are you so dressed up?” Quint asked, as Beckett walked by the picnic tables. Amanda giggled. He was wearing a button up shirt and his nice jeans, the ones without any dirt stains on them.

Beckett brushed him off. “How is our new chef?” he asked.

“Boss these are amazing!” Sander said. “She can cook in my kitchen anytime. Well, no more than once a week.”

He took the biggest cinnabun, poured himself some coffee and sat down in front of Amanda. “Guys it looks like rain today,” he said. “Go prepare the camp.” They scattered like deer at the order.

“So?” Amanda asked, as he took a bite and chewed.

“Delicious.” The soft roll melted in his mouth. Sander couldn’t cook like this.

“Good.” Amanda looked down at the coffee cup in her hands. “Before, you said that you want me to do whatever makes me happy. Did you mean that?”

He nodded as he took another bite.

“Good. Because going flying today would make me happy.” She raised her stunning eyes to his. “With you.”

“Not a good idea,” he said. “We’re on call. We need the plane here in case there’s a fire.”

“We can take my Cessna. It’s going to rain anyways,” she said. “And in the highly unlikely event that there is a fire, and it’s not being put out by the rain, Finch can fly. He told me he is a pilot.”

“Probably the worst pilot that you have ever seen,” he said. “His license expired, probably before you were born.”

“Look at those clouds,” she said, pointing to the dark sky. A foot rubbed up his leg and he almost choked on the cinnabun in his mouth. “Please. I want to do that again.”

Do what again?

Beckett wanted to go as well. So did his bear the way that his chest was vibrating and purring. It was going to rain this afternoon. That was for sure. If there was a fire then the rain would probably put it out before they even got there.

“Alright,” he spat out, before he could convince himself otherwise. The wind could always shift directions and send the rain clouds away. He pushed that thought out of his mind as Amanda ran around the table, wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her breasts into his shoulder and squealed in delight.

“Let’s go now.” Beckett wanted to leave before Matteo came back from his hunt. He didn’t want to see the disapproving look on his face.

Amanda ran off to get the plane ready.

Beckett walked over to Ellis, who was stacking the chairs and carrying them to the storage shed. He hoisted ten, large Adirondack chairs over his shoulder as if they were made of cardboard.

“I’m going up with Amanda,” he said. “I need to get her familiar with the area.
