Chapter Twenty-Six

Niko showed up the next day, bringing in a few snowflakes on his jacket and hair.

“Hey. How were things with your mum?” Ben asked as he opened the door.

“Good. She’s doing quite well if she doesn’t fuck up her computer with, I quote, ‘doing nothing.’”

Niko pulled Ben into his arms, giving him a hug. “How have you been since the meeting yesterday? I’m sorry I couldn’t come over, but I left by mother’s house at eleven.”

Ben rested his head on Niko’s shoulder for a second. The man always smelled so good, but this was the closest he’d ever come to him. The position was awkward, and Niko released him way too soon. Feeling the blond’s arms around him was sometimes the highlight of Ben’s day.

He, who had one or two different guys every night, craved the simple feeling of a man holding him. Even if Niko’s feelings for him were just friendly, it was still a touch. Way better than nothing. And wasn’t he pathetic today? Must be the approaching anniversary.

Ben closed his eyes for a second to hide how much Niko’s touch affected him. The man in question was already shedding his jacket and cap. Ben watched the slim body appearing before him. Niko looked good enough to eat, even if he dressed more conservatively during the days and didn’t use make up.

He’d just come from work and was now pulling papers out of a bag. “I’ve got the paperwork for the apartment. We can go through it together, sign it, and then I’ll drop it off tomorrow. The landlord just told me we could move in right away, and I’d love to be done before the New Year.”

“Wow, that fast? That’s much earlier than we’d anticipated.”

“Yeah, seems like the renovations were finished sooner than expected, and he figured we could get settled immediately.”

“Then I guess I’ll have to start packing.”

“Me, too. I can’t say I’m looking forward to that.”

Ben laughed. “Show me one person that loves that. I can’t think of anyone.”

“Nope. Do you need help with your stuff? I can come over on Saturday and pack a few boxes with you.”

“I think Marco has my moving boxes. I’ll call him to come over and bring them. He can help me put my things in them, since you’ll be busy yourself.”

“You sure? We could do your packing first and then I’ll do mine. I’ve got some people who can help me as well.”

“Nah, it’s fine. Marco can do it. I’m going to ask him after you leave. Let’s tackle the paperwork first, and then we can iron out who packs what.”

“Can we order something to eat first? I’m starving.”

“Sorry, I had cake a while ago, so I’m not really hungry. But go ahead, Chinese, pizza, Thai, what do you want?”

“I have no idea. All I can think of is that I’m freaking hungry. How about pasta, instead of the usual pizza?”

“We could cook that here, too. I think I’ve got some pasta lying around and I might be able to whip up some sauce.
