CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Ian was almost to Christie’s when Julian stopped him on the street. “You’re Bull’s new boy toy, aren’t you?”
If there was one thing Ian knew well, it was bullies. More often than not they misjudged his build, deciding he was an easy target, but after twenty-five years it would take a lot more than a jealous ex to make him cower in front of anyone. While Julian went from offering friendly advice to ranting about how he was going to win Bull back, Ian was wondering what his lover ever saw in the clingy bastard. Like all bullies, Julian had no problem switching from a verbal attack to a physical one, and just as easily, Ian had no problem ducking the punch when it was thrown.
Davin caught Julian as he lost his footing and dangled him off the ground. “Is there a problem, Red?”
“No, you can let him go.”
Julian cursed when Davin dropped him. “Your bodyguard won’t be around all the time.”
Ian shrugged. “Come on then, he won’t interfere.” He saw Davin frown and gave him a pointed look. “Will you?”
“No, I’ll just stand back and watch the show.” Digging around for his phone, Davin shot Ian a grin. “Mind if I get this on video? I know someone who’s going to love it.”
Julian took a deep breath and spat on the ground between them. “I’m no fool, but mark my words, this isn’t over between us.”
“Again, consider me warned.” As they watched Julian take off down the block, he asked conversationally, “Any chance you’d be willing to keep this between us?”
“Not even a little chance.” They found a table inside and waited until the waitress took their order. Once they were alone Davin demanded, “So, what did the little bastard want?”
Wasn’t it obvious? “He wants Bull.”
“The man is insane. They were together a year ago for like five minutes.”
“That long ago?” Ian hadn’t asked Bull any more questions about Julian because he didn’t think past relationships should matter, but now that Davin was talking he wanted to hear it all.
“Yeah, Bull met him in a bar. They had a few drinks and got together for a quick fuck. A few weeks later, Bull is out with the guys after work and guess who conveniently shows up? After the second time Julian started showing up at the shop and texting at all hours, Bull was quick to cut him off.”
“Huh, he made it seem like they were in some sort of relationship.”
“No. Bull has kept himself pretty isolated from relationships until you.”
“Why?” That seemed like too pointed a statement not to ask.
“That’s a question for Bull, isn’t it?”
Apparently it was a question Davin wanted him to ask Bull. “Yes, you’re right.” The waitress brought their plates and he considered Davin thoughtfully. “I’m totally winging it with Bull.”
“I think every relationship has those moments. Ric and I have known each other nearly half our lives and know each other better than anyone else. Even then there are moments of disconnect where we’re unsure what to say or do.
