Chapter 40

Coming Clean

Few words had passed between Karen and Shane during the Delta flight from Las Vegas to Washington Reagan. Karen had tried to draw him out, but he had one-worded her into silence.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to talk. He didn’t know what to say. He knew what he had to do; and he would tell Karen. But it was their lives at stake. And it couldn’t be discussed on the plane, or anywhere, until they got to Langley.

And he couldn’t tell her that either.

Senator Moorhouse had not been happy after exchanging secure texts regarding their flight from Vegas—disrupting the well-laid plan to fly them privately from Chicago Midway. Shane had blamed the Vegas trip on a personal emergency—unrelated to his CIA mission.

That wasn’t a lie—at least it hadn’t been before he got to Vegas. But now he had much more to tell. And he still didn’t know what it all meant.
