Fin and Michael waited on the corner of Crawford Street. Fin’s cheeks were suffused with the warmth of his early morning vodkas but he had to stamp his feet on the pavement to keep the chill at bay.

“Do you think Pavel and Dmitri were their real names?”

“Does it matter?”

“Probably not. Do you think they were FSB?”

“For sure.”

“What about Evgeny and Ruslan? The only other Ruslan I ever met was a Ukrainian gun-runner.”

“I think they are common enough names. Who knows?”

“Here you go.”

Fin looked up to see the Peugeot slinking along.

“Turn the heater up will you Thomas?” said Fin, a little tetchily, as he climbed in. He felt the cold.

“How did it go in there?”

“I think that they will help us, Thomas. They are well resourced.”

“They have certainly got plenty of feet on the ground here” confirmed Michael. “Big feet too, judging from the size of Ruslan.”

“I hope they didn’t offer you any polonium flavoured tea.”

“That’s not so funny Thomas.” Fin was still cold and still tetchy. Fin was used to being in control and he felt both vulnerable and subservient this morning. And he didn’t trust any of them. Thomas faithfully retraced their journey back to Kilburn.
