FALLON

I sensed her before she ever made her appearance.

With a small smile on my face, I turned away from the windows of her garden to face her. I could sense her stomach upset – knew that the baby was giving her hell this morning.

But her mood brightened when she landed her eyes on me, those pretty, hazel eyes of hers lighting up. I stepped towards her and gently gripped her waist, leaning down to softly kiss her. “Hello, my darling girl,” I said softly. “Rough morning?”

She nodded. “Asmodeus didn’t want to let me out of bed.”

I laughed. “He probably shouldn’t have. I can feel how sick you are to your stomach, darling girl,” she frowned at me. “Which means if it’s making me uneasy, then your demon king can feel it just as badly as you do. You should have listened to him.”

Her frown deepened. I sighed as I reached up to cup her cheek, my cold touch soothing her. “You didn’t stay last night.”

I shook my head. “No, I didn’t,” I confirmed. “But I was busy trying to figure out the easiest way to train you – to help you learn how to wield your powers. You have great strength – great magic – inside of you, Cara. You need to learn how to harness it sooner rather than later.”

She was silent. I gently gripped her chin and turned her head to face me. I brushed the pad of my thumb over her bottom lip. “Tell me what’s bothering you, my darling girl,” I coaxed.

She ran those pretty, hazel eyes over my face, almost as if she were trying to get her answers without ever voicing her concerns and her questions. I waited patiently.

“Why haven’t you completed the mating bond with me?” she finally asked. “I mean, by ourselves – without Asmodeus, Lucifer, and Talon.”

“So much has happened since I was able to be with you all of the time,” I gently reminded her. And it had. Between Talon coming home to her, her meeting Asmodeus’s demons, Lucifer’s mark, and on top of that, when she could feel Lucifer slipping away from her – their bond weakening – there just hadn’t been a good time to be with her like we both wanted.

She rested her head on my chest. Without a word, I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close to me. “Why don’t we go back to bed?” I asked her. “We’ll lay down and cuddle. You can get some rest. I’m sure your demon king won’t mind joining us,” I added when I felt his presence come near the room. “Hello, Asmodeus,” I greeted without turning to face him.

“Fallon,” he greeted in return. On instinct, Cara lifted her head, her eyes instantly seeking out Asmodeus. Her eyes burned brightly for him, her blue light shimmering just above her skin. He smiled softly at her. “Hello, my queen. Better now that you’ve located your Angel of Death?”

“Yes,” she immediately answered, somehow warming my dark, cold soul. I brushed my lips to her temple.
