The very next day was a Saturday. Georgia had spent the night and I was grateful. Having Georgia around took my mind off of things with Rosalie. We ordered pizza, watched movies, and gossiped.

Georgia had to leave around noon, something to do with her mom. I hung around the house, in my pajamas. I didn’t want think about the guys, or Rosalie or anything. The whole thing emotionally exhausted me and I needed a break.

“I’m going to go to the grocery store. Want anything special?” My aunt came into the living room where I lounged on the couch with a clay mask on my face.

“Maybe just some sparkling mineral water. Oh and Georgia and I ate all the snacks, the potato chips and string cheese last night.”

“Ok, I’ll restock. Send me a message if there’s anything else.”

“Thanks, Auntie.”

She grabbed her keys and purse and walked out. I flipped through the channels, looking for anything to watch. Fifteen minutes later the doorbell rang. I thought that it was Georgia returning because she’d forgotten something. I opened the door without even looking. Maddox stood on the other side of the door.

“Ack! Maddox, what are you doing here?” I ushered him inside, closing the door quickly. “What have I told you about just showing up? My aunt could’ve been home.”

“Calm down, I saw her leave. I knew we were safe.”

“That’s not stalker-ish at all, you weirdo. Don’t case my house.”

Maddox laughed, not the least bit sorry. “Hey, get dressed, we need to talk and what’s that shit on your face?”

“It’s a clay mask,” I answered, immediately going to the sink to wash it off. Did he know about Quinton and Rosalie. Was Quinton safe? “Did you get my text yesterday? Neither you or Preston texted me back. I was worried about Quinton.”

But Maddox just shook his head and gestured for me to get dressed so we could leave. I should’ve held my ground but I ran upstairs to change. Within minutes, I was ready and hopping into Maddox’s truck after scribbling a short note to my aunt that I’d be back later.

I assumed we were going to the cabin. I was fine with that. We didn’t have plans to go, but I was always excited to hang out with them.

Normally, I was super excited to spend time with them at the cabin but today I was filled with knots.

As we turned down Forest Road, Preston was on his motorcycle at the intersection. He waved to us and we waved back. I wondered if Quinton was already at the cabin waiting.

I was more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room filled with rockers as my dad used to say.

A few minutes later we drove up to the cabin. The driveway was starting to lose its tall grass because we had been using it. But Quinton wasn’t there. His bike was nowhere to be seen.

“Quinton?” Maddox asked Preston.

“I don’t know. He got the same message I did from you. I don’t keep tabs on him.
