Chapter Fourteen

Noah

We had been swallowed by some sort of giant sink whole. There was no way that we would be able to get out of it until the rain stopped. The ground was far too slippery, and even with my powers, I couldn’t jump out of here. We had to be at least six stories below the ground. I looked at Ruby to make sure that she hadn’t been injured before shifting my gaze to Bella to see if she was okay too. Even though I was mad at her for breaking Ruby’s trust and trying to do the spell, I couldn’t help but feel partly responsible. I was the one that had taken both of these girls into that room, knowing full well that it was locked and hidden for a reason. What had started off as me trying to impress Ruby had ended up with us all nearly getting killed.

We had got off lucky, and I knew that there was no way that Bella could do the spell after this. These books were not to be messed with, and I knew now that was why my mom had locked them away. I had been stupid, and I should have never agreed to take Bella in there. Especially after what happened to Ruby. When I got out of here, the first thing I wanted to do was destroy that grimoire and the key to the secret room. It wasn’t like Gabby ever used it anyway.

I didn’t know why they had kept the books down there all this time, it was clear that no one would ever look at them. I knew that there had to be a reason why they hadn’t just been destroyed in the first place. Gabby had to know that the books were down there because she had a key for the room. It couldn’t have been that she had never seen them, and I couldn’t work out.

We all sat in the mud. None of us speaking as the rain poured on us. There was nothing else for us to do, and I think the girls were too angry at each other right now to even look at one another. I had to take Ruby’s side on this, and it wasn’t because I had feelings for her. The fact was that she was right. What Bella did was reckless and beyond stupid, but most of all, she had proved that she couldn’t be trusted. If she had just been honest with Ruby and told her that she was going to do the spell, then we wouldn’t be in this mess now. We would have been able to tell Gabby, about what we did, in order to stop Bella. If we had known that she would betray us like this. She had stolen the opportunity to stop her by being deceitful. She had played us, and I, for one, felt used. Bella didn’t care about Ruby or me. All she cared about was herself. She had made that clear when she did the spell without thinking about the consequences or who could get hurt.
