Chapter Twenty-One
Coral cringed as she watched Syrena stride into the room. Syrena looked absolutely stunning. She had a purple wispy piece of clothing wrapped about her hips that opened as it draped down her right leg. She wore a purple brazier that didnât have any straps. It showed off her breasts in a most spectacular fashion. Syrenaâs hair flowed freely and sparkled a deep purple color. She was definitely a force to be reckoned with. However, what caught Coralâs attention the most was Syrenaâs piercing yellow eyes. They were fixed on Brighton, like a huntress advancing on her prey.
Syrena strode through the dining hall right towards them. Her long legs glistened in the water, hips swaying with every step she took. When she reached their table, Syrena didnât even acknowledge Coral. She merely sat down next to Brighton making sure to caress his shoulders with her hands as she sat.
âBrighton, sweetie. You started without me.â Syrena pouted with the most exaggerated lip Coral had ever seen. âIf I didnât know any better,â she said, âI would think you didnât want to have dinner with me after all.â
Syrena looked down at the table and wriggled her fingers at the food. Still not acknowledging Coralâs presence, Syrena continued. âOh, Brighton. This looks so . . .â She seemed to consider what word she should use to describe the setting before settling on âprovincial.â It was an underhanded comment meant for Coral, albeit hurled indirectly. âLet me help bring some magic to this moment.â
Syrena snapped her fingers and Brightonâs Mermen servers rushed back to the table, ever eager to serve. When they saw Syrena sitting there, one of the Mermenâs jaw dropped open, sending a sly smile onto Syrenaâs face. The other Merman got jittery, obviously nervous to be waiting on this beautiful, if not heinous, creature.
When they arrived, Syrena got up and stood with her soft legs touching Brightonâs arm and back. She purposefully leaned into him. She leaned over and whispered something into each Mermanâs ears. Both raced off to do her bidding. She looked back at the table and waved a hand in the air, chanting something unrecognizable.
Without warning, the water directly on top of the table began swirling around in circles, creating a vortex that started arcing upwards. The food Brighton and Coral were sharing lifted up off the table and was catapulted through the water vortex into the trash receptacle across the room. Coral would have been impressed at the technical display had the assault not been intended to ruin her date with Brighton.
This was getting out of hand. Coral cleared her throat to get Syrenaâs attention but Syrena just ignored her, sitting down in Brightonâs lap, draping her arms around his neck and blocking his view of Coral.
âBrighton,â Coral called out. âAre you just going to let her interrupt our date?â
Brighton swiveled his body from side to side in an effort to lock eyes with Coral but Syrena wasnât making it easy.
âJust give me a second, Coral.â Brighton turned his attention back to Syrena and grabbed her arms with his hands.
