Of all the things I expected him to say, this isn't it. "But... do they even exist?"

"You're asking me that? After everything you've been through?"

I blink. He's right. "How can we find out if it’s true?" But the more I think about it, the more I think he could be right. How else could he have survived being burned not just once, but three times in my presence? The lightning hit us directly. It burned. And his spell web has gone from strange and patchy to being brighter than anyone else's.

"I don't know. Dad didn't know anything more than that it was a possibility, a mutation in the family that sometimes threw itself up."

"So while we're trying to find out more about me, we also need to find out more about you?"

The corners of his mouth come up. "Something like that."

"Then let's get on with it. Let's find those coordinates and get going."

The library is small and quiet. The librarian buys our story of being new in town and shows us to the computer. Seth manages to be particularly charming, and she flutters her eyelashes at him as she leads us to the computer terminals. We promise to come back next time with proof of our new address in the small community, and she smiles and leaves us to it. I see her in the distance, watching Seth with glowing eyes.

"Put the coordinates into here," Seth says, bringing up a website that turns latitude and longitude coordinates into positions on a map.

I nod absently, and type in the first lot of coordinates. I stare at the screen. "Ireland?"

Seth nods. "Yep. Ireland. County Kerry." He leans in closer. “A place called Puffin Island.”

I shake my head. "I don't think I can fly all the way to Ireland. Not yet." I press print on the computer and a black and white map spits out of the small machine just down from us.

“Try the other one.”

I put them into the computer, and another map pops up. "Russia?" It's closer, but hardly better.

"Northern Russia, a place called Severny Island." Seth rubs his face. "Have you ever been out of the country?"

I shake my head. No identity, no passport. Jeff always said we were safer hiding close to home, rather than in a strange land with strange customs. That kind of thing makes you stick out like a sore thumb, he'd say. "You?"

"Not to Russia. Or Ireland. I was hoping for something a little closer to home."

I nod. For all our joking about the places they could be, so was I. Canada would have been doable. Alaska. Hawaii. Did it really have to be in sodding Russia? “I guess we’re going to Russia,” I say softly.

We print out different versions of both maps, a world map for us to plan our route, plus some information on both sites that might help, and Seth puts them in his pocket. He looks at me properly for the first time and grimaces. "You need more clothes."

I look down and realize I'm still wearing stolen clothes.
