We reappeared at the vampire containment. Nick looked back at me, the chair still attached to him.

“Where are we?”

I motioned to the brick building in front of us and then started rolling him up the pathway. “Welcome to the side of vampires people have forgotten. Our main containment center.”

I pushed him through the automatic door and stopped at the receptionist's desk.

The vampire there looked up from her book. “My king.” She jumped to her feet and bowed. “Who have you brought me?” she asked with a grin. “A warlock.”

Nick snarled. “You can’t keep me here.”

“You’re dead, Nick, and it doesn’t seem like you have many people who care about where you disappear to.” I looked up at the receptionist. “This is Nikolas Averin. He’ll be a guest here until I say to release him. We have a lot of questions for him regarding his connections to the Underground.”

“Oh, it’s been a while since we’ve had a member of the Underground here.” She flashed fangs at Nick. “You’ll love it here, Nicky.”

Fear filled the air as the receptionist picked up the phone. “Yes, I have a warlock in custody that needs to be transported to a cell. Yes, his magic is currently bound with cuffs, but we’ll want him in a magical blocked cell.”

I patted Nick’s shoulder. “The more you tell us, the more likely you are to get out of here alive.”

“Does Abby know you kill people here?”

It was an odd question, probably trying to guilt me into keeping him alive. Free.

“Abigail will learn in time what it means to keep her people safe. That includes killing those who are a threat.” I growled. “But not before we get information.”

Two guards appeared in the room, and I pushed the chair with Nick in it forward. “I’ll send Mario to chat.”

Nick said nothing as the vampires took him away. I glanced at the receptionist. “Thank you.”

“Of course, my king.”

I took myself back to the mansion and let out a long sigh. Mario was standing in the hall looking at me. “How’d it go at PIB?”

“Nick is in our custody. It’d be great if you would go down there and have a little chat with him.”

Mario nodded. “Catalina would like to see you.”

“Officially?”

“Yes, officially. Which, if you’re with her, I don’t have to worry about you while I’m with Nick.”

I nodded. “I’ll go see what she wants. It’s shaping up to be a long night already.”

“How is Abigail?”

“I haven’t checked on her. I’ll call her later.”

Mario crossed his arms. “I know that she’s devastated, but…”

“This is the life of a vampire. Our lovers die or move on.” I shrugged. “I was just hoping it wouldn’t be this soon for her.”

“She’ll be alright. Go talk to Catalina and see what she has to say.”

“I’ll see you after you deal with Nick.” I disappeared and reappeared outside Catalina’s house. I knocked and a moment later, she answered the door.

“Levi.” She sounded relieved. “Please come in. Mario told me you were at PIB.”

“I was, briefly. I was transporting a suspect from their custody to ours.
