I knew things would be tense during the meeting, but Britney went out of her way to make the situation more uncomfortable than it had to be. Beggars can’t be choosers though. We do need the numbers since everyone is scattered and we don’t know who to trust anymore. Once Scully, Leroy, Markus, and Britney scatter to get ready for their trip to Hawk City, I turn to Andy.

“I need to talk to my father and Soren.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you in our bedroom.”

She doesn’t falter as she heads down the corridor. Her chains are back, thank Gaia for that.

“Bro, you have it so bad,” Soren pipes up.

“I know. Where’s Dad?”

I got distracted by Andy and didn’t see him leave the room.

“I think he went to Scully’s office.”

“Come on. I want to talk to him in private.”

He narrows his eyes. “What’s going on?”

“You’ll know soon enough.”

“I bet you did something stupid,” he mumbles under his breath.

I suppose Soren will think proposing to Andy in the midst of all this chaos is stupid. But I’ve almost died more than once in the last twenty-four hours. There’s no point in waiting for something I know I’d want today or ten years from now.

The door to the office is partially open, but I knock on it just the same before pushing it all the way in.

Dad is standing by the window with his hands clasped behind his back. He looks over his shoulder and then nods.

“All right. What is it you want to tell us that you couldn’t in front of the others?” Soren asks as soon as we step into the room.

I close the door since he didn’t bother, and then I take a deep breath. “What I’m about to say will shock you, and then Soren will say I’m making a big mistake, but I don’t care.”

Dad’s face remains serious save for the slight upturn of his lips. The phantom smile is more sardonic than amused though.

“I can guess what you’re going to say,” he tells me. “I don’t have any objections.”

“For real?” I can’t help the surprise.

“That’s great, but I still have no clue what’s the juicy news you’re about to drop on us,” Soren complains.

“I asked Andy to marry me.”

His jaw drops while his eyes bug out. “You did what?”

“I’m not going to repeat myself.”

Soren glances at my father. “Was this what you guessed?”

He nods.

“And you’re okay with it? Even if we ignore that she’s a Neo God, there’s also the fact she’s a smidge psychotic.”

“Be careful about what you say about Andy, Soren. Besides, she has proven time and time again she’s on our side.”

He shakes his head. “Damn. I never want to fall in love. I’m making a vow in front of you two right now that I will never, ever fall in love.”

Dad rolls his eyes, the first relaxed reaction he’s had since his kidnapping.

“I wish I had recorded that. I’d play it at your wedding.” I smirk.

“Ha ha. You’re hilarious. But explain to me the logistics of your idea.
